    Japanese Martial Arts Demonstration 

    At Spurlock Museum
     
    The featured martial arts will be Iaido and Kobujutsu. The participants include members of the Kobudokan Dojo of Urbana. This event is held in conjunction with the exhibit “Warriors, Guardians, and Demons.”Admission is FREE and we hope to see you there! See what else we have going on by visiting our website!

    Joseph W. Royer: Urbana’s Architect
    A Multimedia Presentation by Brian Adams
     
    Urbana-born architect Joseph William Royer designed many of Urbana’s signature buildings, including the Champaign County Courthouse, Urbana High School, and The Urbana Free Library.   

    In Brian Adam’s recently published book, he documents the amazing scope of Royer’s work and what is known about his personal life. 
     
    The presentation will include photos of the most significant Royer-designed buildings. Brian Adams is the assistant director of the Public Service Archaeology & Architecture Program at the University of Illinois.  He became interested in historic preservation after he purchased and renovated Urbana homes and researched their history.

    The Paintings of Bonnie Switzer 
     
    Color and texture abound in the paintings of local artist Bonnie Switzer. At one time an elementary school teacher in Urbana, Bonnie also pursued an Associate in Fine Arts degree from Parkland College and decided to become a full-time painter. Her works range from colorful watercolors of outdoor scenes to complex abstracts that incorporate many different objects and materials.
    Take a look at her work and hear what inspires her on the January episode of Art Now!
     
    Art Now! is a half-hour TV show produced by the Urbana Public Arts Commission and UPTV that features a new local artist every month.
